Visiting Ashland slapped Marshfield in the face during the first minutes of their Special District 4 League game at Pete Susick Stadium, Coos Bay, Friday night. Maybe it was the senior night recognition for the Pirates’ graduating sixteen-players, or maybe it was part of the week-long Homecoming celebration accumulating with the grid iron game with the Grizzlies. It took one-win Ashland just 17-seconds to get on the scoreboard with a bomb-pass play, that was followed by a Pirate turnover on Marshfield’s first possession and the Grizzlies took advantage with another quick score, 12-0 visitors. While a start like that might be hard to overcome, the unbeaten and 4A top-ranked Pirates, started to roll. The roll didn’t stop until the final gun, 54-12 Marshfield. The Pirates (2-0, 6-0) head to Murphy, south of Grants Pass next Friday to play Hidden Valley (1-1, 1-4). The Mustangs won at Mazama, 24-14. The other league game had fourth-ranked Henley visiting North Bend at Vic Adams Field. The Hornets won 57-32. Next Friday, Oct. 17, North Bend (1-1, 2-4) travels to Mazama (0-2, 1-5) and Ashland (0-2, 1-4) is at Henley (2-0, 3-2).
