Marshfield’s football has advanced to the OSAA 4A quarter-final playoff round following a 49-14 First Round win Friday night at home over visiting Crescent Valley (Corvallis). The second-ranked Pirates (9-1) will host 7th ranked La Grande (6-4), a 20-17 winner over visiting Sweet Home, Friday, Nov. 14, 7 p.m., Pete Susick Stadium, Coos Bay. North Bend lost at No. 5 Tillamook, 48-12. No. 14 Seaside lost at No. 3 Henley, 49-13. In the 3A First Round, Siuslaw lost at home to Gervais, 48-28. In the 2A First Round: No. 3 Bandon beat visiting Harrisburg, 47-27. The Tigers (9-0) will host No. 11 Culver (9-1), Saturday, Nov. 15. No. 10 Myrtle Pt. won at Knappa, 12-6. The No. 10 Bobcats (7-3) will play at No. 2 Lost River (9-1), Saturday, Nov. 15, 1 p.m. No. 13 Gold Beach lost at St. Paul, 52-12. In the 1A-6 First Round: Powers lost at Jordan Valley, 49-6.

Marshfield’s volleyball team finished fourth at the OSAA/OnPoint Community Credit Union 4A State Championships Saturday, at MHS, Coos Bay. The Lady Pirates lost their opener to The Dalles 3-0, but worked back through the Consolation Bracket with a semi-final win over Pendleton, 3-2, and finally the fourth-place match over Philomath, 3-1. League companion, and top-ranked Marist Catholic, finished a one-loss season with a win over The Dalles, 3-0, in the championship match. Over at North Bend in the 3A tourney, top-ranked Valley Catholic beat No. 2 Westside Christian, 3-1. Westside Christian, out of Tigard, was the only team to hand Marist Catholic a loss early in the season. Top-ranked Crosshill Christian won the 2A championship over Clatskanie, 3-0, at Eastern Oregon University, La Grande. Myrtle Pt. lost their opener to Clatskanie, 3-0, then lost in the Consolation semi-finals to Trinity Lutheran, 3-1. At the 1A Tourney, also in La Grande, top-ranked Crane beat Imbler, 3-1.

Prep XC

Once again, the Oregon Coast cross-country runners had good results at the OSAA/OnPoint Community Credit Union State Championships at Lane Community College, Saturday, in Eugene. Marshfield’s Jaxson Stovall placed second in the boy’s 4A 5K race (16:00.6). Marist Catholic’s Corbin Sage took first (15:56.6). Newport’s Chandler Avery was seventh (16:36.7). La Grande won the team championship with 61-points, Molalla was second (75), followed by Cottage Grove (123). Newport was sixth (183), Tillamook ninth (206) and Marshfield 12th (267). La Grande also won the 4A girls with 51-points, Klamath Union second (65) and North Bend eighth (193). Cassidy Smart, Philomath, was the individual champion on the 5K course in 18;33.8). Newport’s Alexandra Curtis placed eighth (19:30.5). North Bend’s Addison Horning took tenth (19:34.0). The Bulldog’s Ellie Massey was 12th (19:38.1). Siuslaw won the boy’s 3A championship with 88-points. Cascade Christian took second (103) and Neah-Kah-Nie third (104). Jayden Warner, Warrenton, took first-place (14:55.6). Gus Kirby, Neah-Kah-Nie, third (15:49.8), and Siuslaw’s Henry Stone, fourth, (15:52.3). In the girl’s 3A/2A/1A race, Coquille sophomore Ella Henthorn won in 18:14.7. Bandon’s Jael Legutki was 12th (19:19.8). Banks won the team championship (56 pts.), Siuslaw was sixth (203), and Bandon 10th (261). In the 2A/1A boys, Knappa won the team title (38 pts.) with Bandon second (55). Wyatt Jacobson, Knappa, was the individual champion (16:17.6) and right behind for second was Beckett Pahls, Bandon (16:18.5).

In the Prep Soccer playoffs Saturday, Nov. 8: 3A/2A/1A girls: Brookings-Harbor lost in the quarter-final round at No. 2 Amity, 6-1. In the 3A boys: Tillamook lost at No. 1 Stayton 8-7 in overtime on PK’s. Newport/Waldport fell at No. 3 Henley, 2-0.
