OSAA Choir
The OSAA/OnPoint Community Credit Union Choir State Championships were held at the LaSalle Center on the campus of Oregon State. Tillamook won the 4A Choir, with Estacada second and Henley third. Westside Christian, Tigard, won the 3A Choir. And, the Delphian School won the 2A/1A. Canby won the 5A and Lake Oswego took the 6A.

With seven-games to go in the regular 4A SkyEm Lg. season, No. 4 Marist Catholic (9-0, 17-3) took a big leap forward and put some distance between the rest of the league with a Friday sweep of visiting No. 8 North Bend, at Eugene, 12-6 & 11-6. The Bulldogs (3-3, 14-4) drop into a tie for second with Junction City (3-3, 6-11). JC swept at fourth-place Cottage Grove (2-7, 5-16), 19-16 & 13-8. Marshfield (1-5, 4-15) had the bye. On the North Coast, the Cowapa Lg. continues to be “the” league this season with top-ranked Scappoose (7-1, 16-4), second-ranked Astoria (7-2, 18-3), and third-ranked St. Helens (5-2, 15-5). On Friday, Astoria won at fourth-place, and 14th ranked Seaside (1-6, 8-11), 4-1, while Scappoose won at fifth-place Tillamook (0-9, 4-16), 10-1. In the 3A Far West Lg. – Friday’s scores: Siuslaw swept at Coquille, 23-15 & 11-5. So. Umpqua, destined for 4A next year, leads the league (12-0 20-1). The Lancers are fourth-ranked. In the Southern OR Conf. – always a half-way meeting between Brookings-Harbor and Lakeview. This time at Medford. The Honkers swept the Bruins, 8-4 & 16-9. North Valley leads the league (8-1, 18-5), Knights are ranked No. 6. B-H (4-5, 11-12) is in second, Lakeview (3-3), 7-10) is third. Special Dist. 3 – Yamhill Carlton won at Taft (Lincoln City), 12-1 (5) in the “Battle of the Tigers”. Third-ranked Y-C leads the league (21-1, 20-3). Taft is seventh (3-9, 6-12). 2A/1A: What can you say about the season Powers is having? Good, but not great, 16th ranked Umpqua Valley Christian/Camas Valley (5-3, 11-9) slowed the roll down Friday with a 14-13 win at tenth-ranked Powers (9-0, 16-2) in a non-league game. Also, in SD4 – Second-place Toledo (7-2, 13-6) won at Waldport, 15-2. Bandon fell at third-place Myrtle Pt. (5-3, 7-7), 10-8. On the North Coast, SD1 – Knappa got swept at Nestucca, 13-3 (5) & 14-13. Clatskanie (10-2, 16-6) leads the league, 13th ranked Nestucca (6-3, 12-7) is second and 15th ranked Knappa (5-4, 11-9) is third. On Saturday, non-league: Umpqua Valley Christian won at Bandon, 19-4.

In the 4A SkyEm League baseball race, five-games to go for league leader Marist Catholic. The second-ranked Spartans (8-1, 16-4) swept visiting No. 12, and third-place, North Bend, (3-3, 9-10) at Eugene Friday, Second-place, and fourth-ranked Junction City (4-2, 14-6), swept at fifth-place Cottage Grove (1-8, 4-19), 14-0 (5) & 19-3 (5). Fourth-place Marshfield (2-4, 7-10), had a bye. Sixth-ranked Stayton (7-2, 17-3) leads the OR West Conf. Newport is tied for fourth. In the Cowapa Lg., Tillamook fell at Scappoose, 9-1, Friday. Third-ranked Scappoose (8-1, 16-6) leads the league.

Several South Coast track & field teams competed in the 76th Annual Grants Pass Rotary Invitational Saturday in Southern Oregon. In the girl’s 100, Bandon’s Marley Petrey placed second (12:36), but her time was the best in the 2A this season. In the 1500, Coquille’s Ella Henthorne was sixth (4:47.93), right behind her was North Bend’s Addy Honing (4:56.26). Henthorne doubled down with a second place in the 1500 (9:51.07), which is the best time in 3A this season. In the 100 Hurdles, Marshfield’s Rylee McNally was second (15.92). Petrey won the 300H (43.95), best time in 2A, while McNally was second in the Frosh/Soph 300H (48.75). The Frosh/Soph team of Annhelena Vancannon, McNally, Kindall Wyatt, & Jordyn Mickelson won the 4X100 Relay (50.86). The same team, minus Mickelson, but added Bella Cox, won the 4X400 Frosh/Soph 4X400 Relay (4:23.74). Marshfield’s Sierra Sauers took second in the Discus (115-3). In another battle of reigning State Champions, Bandon’s Caitlyn Michalek (130-0.25) won the Javelin edging out Powers’ Danika Bushnell (127-5). Coquille’s Ada Millet won the Pole Vault (11-0), top mark in 3A this season. Kendra Bushnell, Powers, was second (10-0). In the Long Jump, Coquille’s Bristol Layton took second (16-2.75). In the Frosh/Soph Long Jump, Marshfield’s Jordyn Mickleson was second (15-8.25). Over on the boy’s side: Marshfield’s Jaxson Stovall was fourth in the 800 (1:59.35). The Pirate senior was also fourth in the 1500 (3:59.0). In both races, Stovall had the top 4A time among the runners. North Bend’s Raleigh Collier won the Middle School 1500 (4:26.84). Coquille’s Xavier Trujillo was third in the Frosh/Soph 3000 (9:48.46). The Pirate team of Carter McGriff, Nicoya Pruess, Chandler Wyatt & Jake Day were third in the 4X400 Relay (3:27.13). Henley won in 3:24.43. Myrtle Point “Super Freshman” Wyatt Richards was second in the Javelin (171-0). Bandon’s Noah Brown was fourth in the Pole Vault (13-0). His younger brother, Jonah Brown, was fourth in the Frosh/Soph Pole Vault (11-6). Henley won the boys’ varsity; Marshfield tied for eighth. Crater won the girls’, with Bandon fifth and Coquille sixth. Powers and Marshfield tied for 13th.
