Marshfield and Marist Catholic jumped out in the first volleyball matches of the 4A SkyEm League season with wins Tuesday night. The Lady Pirates took on their Bay Area Rivals and had to battle from behind to beat visiting North Bend in the first set, and then took the next two for a 3-0 sweep. Marist Catholic swept at Cottage Grove, 3-0. Junction City had the bye. In the 4A Oregon West Conference – Newport beat visiting North Marion, 3-0. On the North Coast – Cowapa Lg.: Scappoose won at Seaside, 3-1, and Tillamook fell at St. Helens, 3-1. In 3A Pac-West Conf. – Taft lost at Santiam Christian, 3-0. Far West Lg. – Siuslaw fell at Sutherlin, 3-0. Coquille won at Douglas, 3-0. In the Southern Oregon Conf. – Brookings-Harbor lost to visiting St. Mary’s, 3-0. In the 2A Sunset Conf. – Myrtle Pt. beat visiting Illinois Valley, 3-0. Bandon won at Reedsport, 3-1. No score Gold Beach at Oakland. Valley Coast Conf. – no score, Waldport at Toledo. North Coast: Northwest Lg. – Nestucca fell at Vernonia, 3-1. Knappa lost at Clatskanie, 3-0.
