Originally a celebration of President George Washington’s birthday started in 1885, the holiday was adapted in 1968 to also honor the birth of U.S. President Abraham Lincoln and moved to the third Monday in February. Here’s a list of what government offices and services are open and closed for Presidents Day, Monday, Feb. 16, in the Portland area.
