Writing an accurate and understandable ballot title in just 15 words is a challenge, but it’s something newspaper editors do every day in headlines and descriptions. It is no surprise why some are shaking their heads over the attorney general’s approved title for the initiative petition to create an open primary for elections in Oregon (“Hit with criticism, Oregon attorney general largely stands by ballot explanations critics derided as ‘biased,’ ‘egregious,’ ‘inaccurate,’” Jan. 16) .
