I sent a message to the Portland City Council, thanking them for ignoring the wishes of the citizens they are supposed to represent by refusing to return the name 39th Avenue to that street, despite overwhelming citizen support for the original name, (“Portland renames César E. Chávez Boulevard for all farmworkers,” Sept. 10). I told them not to sweat the election – I’m sure they are all safe to be re-elected.
