As the mother of a preschooler and a 1-year-old, I am deeply disturbed that students in Oregon public schools are inundated with screen time on school-sanctioned, and often mandatory, devices, (“No more pencils, no more books? In Oregon, pushback is growing on screen time during school,” March 30). This situation exists despite new awareness of the risks of screen time to children and teenagers — including decreased socialization, inability to concentrate, depression, anxiety and increase in sedentary behavior.
