As someone who is more frequently a pedestrian than a driver, I see the need to mark more intersections with “no turn on red” signs, (“Portland weighs new limits on right-on-red turns in crash-prone areas,” Aug. 1). Councilor Loretta Smith nailed it with her recognition that when preparing to turn right, drivers’ attention is too often focused on vehicle traffic approaching from the drivers’ left, with no final check for pedestrians crossing on the drivers’ right.
