Some Beaverton kindergarteners recently learned that they will be eligible for $100 of free money from the state if their parents start a new Oregon 529 college savings plan and contribute $25, (“Parents of Oregon kindergartners can get free $100 for their child’s college fund with 1 step,” May 29). Before this, the state gave $25. Despite the children’s delightful enthusiasm, that money won’t go very far.
