I read the story about U.S. Immigration and Customs enforcement agents detaining a family as they tried to take their child to the emergency room. It chilled me to my core. Who could see that headline and not realize the fundamental lapse in our humanity? (“ICE detains family seeking emergency care for child at Portland hospital,” Jan. 23).
