Remembering Gil Datan
“Gil Day - 2026” - April 20th-
This is how I remember Gil. Full of life, full of energy, full of love.
I think about him often and ALWAYS something hilarious comes to mind….
Unfortunately we cannot create new memories/photos so I will share an old one.
The Sheriff’s Office used to (a long time ago) issue these horrible looking hats if the patrol deputy so choose to wear them.
Obviously we did not! One night on Patrol while we were talking in North Coos County, Gil busts out these “Tom Cruse,” glasses and says… “I have an idea, grab your camera.”
The result,,,, see photo below. There may also be a photo of me out there somewhere in the same get up, but I don’t have access to it…. lol
This is Gil, my friend, a great co-worker, living dad, and just all around life of the party dude!!!
Gil & My mentor, Chris Aycock PhD, President of the American Society of Canine Trainers International said it best. “Many of my best memories from my time in canine training come from time with Gil.”
Shorty after Gil passed I ran into another one of Gil and my mutual friends, Bob Hood, and he summed up about how many of us feel about my friend.
“Superman doesn’t die.” - Bob Hood
I look forward to attending your comedy show when I get there fish 🐟.
