Roger Shiels, an architect and project administrator of Shiels Obletz Johnsen whose work on the Pioneer Courthouse Square, the Portland Streetcar and Transit Mall played a role in reimagining downtown Portland, died March 23, 2026.

Roger Shiels, who played a role in the rejuvenation of Portland’s Central City by managing complex public-works projects such as the Portland Transit Mall and Pioneer Courthouse Square, died March 23 at age 91.
