Description
City of Coos Bay release - A sanitary sewer overflow is defined by the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) as an incident where sewer discharges at an unapproved location. Friday, city staff discovered that a sanitary sewer lateral had been incorrectly connected to a storm sewer system as a result of recent construction activity. This storm sewer system conveys stormwater from S. 4th Street, easterly along Golden Avenue, and ultimately discharges to the Bay. It has been estimated that approximately 1,400 gallons of sewer has been discharged into the Bay. The Oregon Emergency Response System and DEQ have been notified. Any questions can be directed to Public Works at 541-269-8918.
