đ¨ Scam Alert: Donât Fall for Fake Warrant Calls! đ¨
Weâve received reports again of scammers impersonating Sheriffâs Office personnel, calling people and claiming they have an active warrant. These fraudsters demand immediate paymentâoften via gift cards, wire transfers, or cryptocurrencyâto âclearâ the warrant. This is a SCAM!
Remember: The Coos County Sheriffâs Office will NEVER:
⢠Call you demanding money or payment to resolve a warrant.
⢠Threaten arrest if you donât pay right away.
⢠Ask for payment through untraceable methods like prepaid cards or Bitcoin.
If you receive such a call:
1 Hang up immediatelyâdo not engage.
2 Block the number.
3 Contact us directly at (541) 396-7800 to verify any legitimate concerns.
4 Report the scam to the FTC at ftc.gov/complaint.
