BANDON – Southern Coos Hospital & Health Center employees are mourning the loss of a beloved staff member James “Jim” Darren Morgan, 54, of Coquille, who passed unexpectedly and peacefully in his sleep at home on June 24, 2025.
Jim was born on April 21, 1971 in Coquille, Oregon to John Raymond Morgan and Rayola Pearl Morgan. Jim lived his whole life in Coquille where he attended school. Jim completed his EMT training at Southern Oregon Community College.
The last several years Jim worked in the Lab at Southern Coos Hospital & Health Center as a Phlebotomist, a job he loved. Many patients remember his kind and gentle nature, and his balloon animals, made for children and adults alike to cheer them up.

Dear Southern Coos Family:
It is with deep sadness that I share the heartbreaking news that our colleague and friend, Jim Morgan, passed away, peacefully in his sleep at home last night. He was a valued member of our team, beloved by many, and contributed so much to our workplace and community. This loss is deeply felt by all who had the privilege to know and work with him, and that includes me. I will miss Jim’s smiling face.
We know this news may be difficult for many. Please remember that support is available to all employees through our Employee Assistance Program and counseling resources. I encourage you to use these resources as needed during this time.
Please keep Jim’s family and loved ones in your thoughts during this incredibly difficult time, and let’s continue to support one another as a team at this time.

Services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2025 in Coquille, beginning at 11:30 a.m. with a Coquille Fire Department big truck and ladder procession – a fire department tradition to give Jim one last ride – from Lincoln School to the Coquille Community Building, where there will be a Celebration of Life and Barbecue in Jim’s honor at 12 p.m. Burgers and hot-dogs will be served. There will also be a final tap-out with Jim’s numbers. All are welcome to attend
Memorial Service: Saturday, Aug. 9, Coquille – 11:30 a.m., fire department processional starting from Lincoln School to the Coquille Community Building, 115 N. Birch, Coquille, OR 97423, followed by a barbecue at 12 p.m.
In Jim’s honor, a memorial gold leaf has been purchased with money raised by employees for the Southern Coos Health Foundation’s Tree of Giving, located in the hospital lobby. The money raised is a donation to the Foundation in Jim’s name.
