At 5:40 a.m. on October 21, HPD officers were dispatched to an office building on NE Elam Young Parkway after employees arrived to find a door propped open and the inside ransacked. They made the smart choice. They did not enter. They called police. Officers responded, surrounded the building, and deployed a drone inside. The suspect, later identified as 64-year-old Thomas Freeman, ignored all verbal commands and did not react to the drone hovering directly in front of him. With help from a Tigard PD K9 team, officers entered the building. One officer used a creative tactic by tossing a piece of paper into Freeman's line of sight. It worked. Freeman complied and was safely taken into custody. He was arrested for Burglary II, Theft II, and Criminal Mischief II. He also had an active arrest warrant.
