The U.S. job market remains relatively strong by historical standards, but economists and labor researchers increasingly are looking beyond the headline unemployment rate to another trend: a growing share of young men are neither working nor actively seeking jobs. While the national unemployment rate stood at 4.1% in July, labor force participation continued to drift lower, raising new questions about why some young adults are disconnecting from work altogether.
