Texas resident Mike Honkomp climbed Mount McLoughlin, the tallest peak in southern Oregon, on a clear day in early October. Once at the 9,495-foot summit, he saw only wilderness, from Crater Lake and Upper Klamath Lake to Mount Shasta in California.
