Description

Doctors and community health workers across Oregon say growing numbers of immigrant patients are avoiding medical care out of fear that seeking treatment could expose them to immigration enforcement. Dr. Antonio Germann, pictured outside Legacy Silverton Medical Center on Jan. 27, 2026. Germann, says patients are forgoing critical medical care because they fear deportation.

A patient diagnosed with cancer delayed treatment. A diabetic rationed insulin to dodge a trip to the pharmacy. Parents avoided a specialist for their child suffering seizures. An expecting mother arrived to give birth having received no prenatal care.
