HILLSBORO, Ore. – Oregon scored three goals during a 10-minute span in the second half to defeat Portland State 3-0 in the season opener for both teams Thursday at Hillsboro Stadium.  Carly Cormack scored the Ducks' first two goals, while freshman Shiloh Baird found the net for the first time in an Oregon uniform to cap the scoring.  "It was a great start to the season and a pure team effort," said coach Tracy Joyner. "I was really happy with how we responded in the second half. We made some adjustments and were able to execute.  "We scored three very nice goals and kept Portland State out of the net. Some good individual performances and a great team performance to build on for Sunday's match."  Oregon opens the home portion of the 2026 season Sunday at 1 p.m. versus Gonzaga.  How It Happened: Oregon found itself on offense throughout the first half and outshot the Vikings 11-3, but could not break through.  That changed in the second half when Carmack scored the first of her two goals in the 55th minute.  Baird started the scoring play by taking the ball on a long run up the right side and into the box behind the defense. That drew PSU's goalkeeper out of the net. Baird then dropped ball to Cormack, who hammered a shot home from 12 yards out.  "I think we just had to get into our rhythm," said Cormack, who recorded the second brace of her career. "We were right there, we were pushing it so when the ball went through, it was definitely a really good feeling and that's when our momentum really just took us."  Just over four minutes later, Abella Hunter fed the ball through traffic to Cormack, who curled the ball into the left corner of the net for a 2-0 Oregon lead.  Baird put an exclamation point on the night with a skillful goal in the 65th minute. Cloe Chase angled a pass up the left side and Baird carried it down the sideline before turning towards the net and lifting the ball over PSU's goalkeeper and into a tight window in the upper right corner of the net.  "I'm so excited, yeah," said Baird. "Super-hyped. Super happy to score my first goal.  "Right when I saw (Chase) open her hips, I just took a touch and thought, "I'm going just to bang this, float it right into the goal" and it happened."  Gray Willson (73 minutes) and Kailey Kimball (17 minutes) combined for the shutout in goal.
