Portland soccer fans watch the U.S.-Australia match at The Independent on Friday, June 19, 2026.

The Independent Sports Bar and Grill erupted into a blur of red, white and blue high fives, cheers and chants Friday in downtown Portland as the U.S. Men’s National Team scored the first goal in its match against Australia.
