RPD release - On 8/12/26 at approximately 4:04pm, the Reedsport Police Department responded to a reported vehicle vs pedestrian collision at the intersection of US Highway 101 and 19th Street. Upon arrival, responding officers found multiple citizens rendering aid to a 34 year old Reedsport resident and her two year old son who’d been struck by a motorist. Despite the best efforts of all involved, tragically the 34-year-old female did not survive her injuries. The involved two-year-old was transported to Lower Umpqua Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries before being reunited with his father. This incident is still being investigated by the Reedsport Police Department with assistance from the Oregon State Police and Coos Bay Police Department. No further information will be released until the investigation is complete. The Reedsport Police Department would like to thank all citizens who assisted in this tragic event by way of rendering aid or providing witness statements. Additionally we’d like to thank our partners with the Oregon State Police, Douglas County Sheriffs Office, Coos Bay Police Department, Oregon Department of Transportation, The Reedsport Volunteer Fire Department and Lower Umpqua Ambulance for their assistance during this incident. The Reedsport Police Department offers our sincere condolences to all affected by this tragedy.
