UO release - EUGENE, Ore. - Oregon running back Makhi Hughes and defensive back Dillon Thieneman were named to the 2025 Walter Camp preseason all-America second team on Tuesday morning.  Both incoming transfers for the Ducks, Hughes and Thieneman are among 50 players to be recognized as preseason all-Americans by the Walter Camp Football Foundation. 2025 will mark the 136th edition of the nation's oldest college football all-America team.  Hughes was a standout at Tulane each of the last two seasons, rushing for 1,378 yards and seven touchdowns as a redshirt freshman in 2023 before going for 1,401 yards and 15 scores in 2024. He was an all-AAC first-team selection and a Doak Walker Award semifinalist as a redshirt sophomore while ranking 10th nationally in rushing yards and 20th in rushing yards per game (100.1).  A native of Birmingham, Ala., Hughes burst onto the scene in 2023 as the AAC Rookie of the Year while earning first-team all-conference honors. He rushed for more than 100 yards in seven of 14 games before doing so once again in 2024.  Thieneman was a two-year starter in the secondary for Purdue, earning FWAA Defensive Freshman of the Year and Associated Press third-team all-America honors in 2023 after ranking third nationally with six interceptions and leading all FBS freshmen with 74 solo tackles. He led the Boilermakers with 106 total tackles, leading all FBS freshmen and ranking fifth among all Big Ten players.  Thieneman led all Big Ten defensive backs with 104 total tackles as a sophomore in 2024 while starting all 12 games for Purdue. He also broke up seven passes and had a sack.  Oregon will open the 2025 season at home against Montana State on Saturday, Aug. 30.
