Description

Smoke billowed into the Bay Area Tuesday afternoon forcing many residents indoors and behind closed windows.  According to the Coos Forest Protective Association, two fires broke out, one between Lakeside and Reedsport and another in the dunes on the North Spit of Coos Bay.  Here's there reports:  Foredune Fire, “North Spit” 0.5 miles North of Coos Bay, 08/12/25:  The fire is an estimated 5 acres with a full response from Coos Forest Protective Association and Hauser Fire Department.  Please stay away from the Transpacific Parkway if possible. No homes are threatened at this time.  This fire is under investigation.  Scholfield Ridge Fire, 4.5 miles South East of Reedsport, 08/12/2025:  The fire is estimated to be 40 acres at this time with a full response from Coos Forest Protective Association. Also responding is Douglas Forest Protective Association, United States Forest Service, Severity Aircraft from Oregon Department of Forestry, and contract resources such as crews, engines, and medical personnel.  Please stay away from the Scholfield Road area if possible. No homes are currently threatened but the situation is being monitored.  This fire is currently under investigation.  The CFPA has issued a “High Fire Danger” for the South Coast.
