“Winter in Candyland”, one of our club’s two annual Signature Events, was bigger and better than ever this year. The Family Nurturing Center and Medford Rogue Rotary offered a weekend of fun on February 1st and 2nd during the “Winter in Candyland” event at The Jackson County Expo. The sweetest event of the year attracted almost 4000 people, an increase of more than 30% over last year. The event included a life-sized Candyland village with interactive games along with kings and queens and other characters from the board game.

Each family attending received a free Candyland board game to encourage families to play together. Research shows that families that play games like Candyland or Chutes and Ladders together just 30 minutes a week greatly contributes to a child’s preparedness for kindergarten.

An event of this size isn’t successful without the support from a lot of people. Twenty-seven Medford Rogue Rotary club members volunteered for this year’s event. Many of our club’s volunteers worked multiple shifts and multiple days helping with set-up, staffing positions during the event, and assisting with tear-down. Our many volunteers included past-president Kellie Hill reprising her role as Queen Frostine, greeting the almost 4000 guests as they entered the Candyland Village over the two-day event. Not to be outdone, Paul Christy donned the King Candy costume to say thank you to guests as their visit wound down and offering another opportunity for family photos.

Thank you to all our club members, and friends of our club, who gave their time and energy to make this event a success again this year.
