SOU release - ASHLAND – Southern Oregon running back Gunner Yates has landed another All-America honor, this time courtesy of the Walter Camp Football Foundation. The Walter Camp All-America team, the country's longest-running college football list of the sort, released its 135th edition and inaugural NAIA squad with Yates part of a 12-person offensive first team. Yates, a sophomore from Coquille, was previously named a first-team All-American on the NAIA's official list selected by the National Football Coaches Association after claiming the Frontier Conference Offensive MVP award. He topped the NAIA leaderboard with 1,488 rushing yards in 11 games, and ranked second in rushing yards per game (135.3), rushing touchdowns (27) and total touchdowns (29). His was the first All-America award for a Raider offensive player in seven years. In leading SOU to an 8-3 record and a No. 24 final ranking, Yates rushed for over 100 yards on seven different occasions, topping out at 293 and 269. He logged multiple TDs in all but one outing. Camp, a former athlete and coach at Yale University, is regarded as the "Father of American football" and picked his first All-America team in 1889. The Walter Camp Football Foundation, a volunteer-led group based in Connecticut, was founded in 1967 and is a member of the National College Football Awards Association. SOU opens the 2025 season against Simpson (CA), Aug. 28th, 6 p.m., at Ashland.
