The City of Coos Bay will begin the 2026 Spring Road Improvements Project on April 13, 2026, with anticipated completion by the end of the day on April 17, 2026. The City has contracted with Knife River Materials to rehabilitate two roadway sections as part of this project: Newmark Avenue (LaClair Street to Staples entrance) Work will occur on Newmark Avenue in both directions between LaClair Street and the Staples parking lot entrance. Construction will take place during nighttime hours (7:00 PM to 7:00 AM) to minimize daytime traffic impacts. This portion of the project will consist of a grind and inlay, which involves removing the top layers of existing pavement (the wear surface) and replacing them with a new two-inch asphalt surface.
South Marple Street (Newmark Avenue to Michigan Avenue) will also receive a grind and inlay treatment. This section will be completed curb-to-curb, providing a full-width roadway rehabilitation.
Additional work will include: Removal and replacement of seven (7) traffic detection loops, restriping of all newly paved roadway sections.
