Shelter staff took the dogs and cats to the Oregon Humane Society's Portland campus.

The Oregon Humane Society and Lake County Sheriff’s Office rescued 17 dogs, four cats, five birds and two gerbils living in “unsanitary conditions” from a Christmas Valley property on Wednesday, the animal shelter said.
