Description
💥 Congratulations to the newest members of Lane County Sheriff’s Search & Rescue! 💥
These volunteers dedicated 130 hours over the past few months to learn navigation, outdoor survival, wilderness first aid, search technique, and more. The final test is a weekend in the mountains where they sleep in survival shelters and conduct a mock search at night – where just about everything is thrown at them!
Volunteers who complete the training are certified to deploy on search and rescue missions, but must complete ongoing training.
Most members will continue their training with Ground Search & Rescue, while a few will also continue training in technical rescue with Eugene Mountain Rescue. There might even be a future SAR canine handler in the group!
Thanks to our more than 180 volunteers for the incredible work you do every week to help Lane County’s residents and visitors.
