Lane Co. Sheriff’s Office release - On Tuesday, October 22, 2024, detectives with the Lane County Sheriff’s Office served a search warrant at a residence in the 43000 block of McKenzie Hwy. The search warrant was the result of a months-long investigation by the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, focusing on child exploitation.  The suspect, William Harold Berry III, was a registered sex offender on post-prison supervision for a prior felony conviction of Unlawful Penetration in the First Degree. Berry was arrested during the service of the warrant. During the search, detectives seized several electronic storage devices, multiple firearms, and body armor.  Berry was transported to the Lane County Jail without incident and lodged on 10 counts of Encouraging Child Sex Abuse in the 1st Degree and 10 counts of Encouraging Child Sex Abuse in the 2nd Degree.  On July 1st, Berry plead guilty to five counts of Encouraging Child Sex Abuse in the 1st Degree and one count of Felon in Possession of a Firearm. He was sentenced to 104 months in the Oregon Department of Corrections.  In a separate ICAC case, on February 6th, Lane County Sheriff’s detectives served a search warrant at residences in the 100 block of Lea Avenue and 2500 block of Willakenzie Road, Eugene. The suspect, Noah Alan Starkey-Gomes, 31, was contacted and arrested. Starkey-Gomes was lodged at the Lane County Jail on 2 counts of Encouraging Child Sex Abuse in the 1st Degree and 2 counts of Encouraging Child Sex Abuse in the 2nd Degree.  On July 28th, Starkey-Gomes plead guilty to three counts of Encouraging Child Sex Abuse in the 1st Degree. He was sentenced to 40 months in the Oregon Department of Corrections and 36 months of post-prison supervision.  The Lane County Sheriff’s Office received assistance during these investigations from the Lane County District Attorney’s Office, Springfield Police Department, Eugene Police Department, Lane County Parole & Probation, Oregon State Police, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), and the Oregon Department of Justice.  These arrests are part of an ongoing effort by local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to combat child exploitation and protect vulnerable members of our community.
