Have Something to Share? The Friday Update Is for Our Community Every Friday, the City of Coos Bay sends the Friday Update to more than 9,000 subscribers — sharing City news alongside events, programs, resources, and opportunities happening throughout our community. And not everything in the Friday Update has to come from City Hall. We welcome submissions from local nonprofit organizations and governmental and community partners about events and opportunities that are open to the public and benefit our community. That might be an upcoming cultural event, educational program, volunteer opportunity, community meeting, public workshop, available resource, or simply something our neighbors might enjoy knowing about. As a City publication, we also have a responsibility to make sure the Friday Update remains a welcoming and useful source of information for a community made up of many different people, experiences, perspectives, and beliefs. For that reason, our focus is on informing and connecting. We are happy to help residents learn that an organization, event, service, or opportunity exists. When submitted material moves beyond information into advocacy, electioneering, one side of a controversial community issue, or other content where City publication could reasonably be viewed as endorsing a particular position, we may ask to modify the submission or direct readers to the organization itself for additional information. Importantly, that determination is about the content being submitted — not the organization submitting it. We value the many organizations, agencies, volunteers, and community members doing good work throughout Coos Bay.
