Rep. Ricki Ruiz, D-Gresham, is one of the co-chairs of the Joint Public Education Appropriations Committee, which is considering a proposal to overhaul Oregon's Quality Education Model and the state standards that schools are expected to meet to be in compliance with state law.

Lawmakers are laying the groundwork for a huge shift in how the state calculates how much money is needed for Oregon schools to produce excellent academic results.
