Description
In its third year, Winter in Candyland is a free community event presented by Family Nurturing Center and brought to you by Medford Rogue Rotary Club. Families can create 'sweet ' memories while strolling through a life-size Candyland village starting with Medford Rogue Rotary Past President and District 5110 Membership Head Cheerleader, Kellie Hill as Queen Frostine then visiting twelve "lands", dozens of live characters, games, activities, photo ops, finishing with a King Candy and a goodie bag including the Candy Land game.
Candy Land was invented by retired schoolteacher Eleanor Abbott while she recovered from polio in 1948. She was convalescing in a San Diego hospital surrounded by children being treated for the disease and saw how isolating and lonely it was for them. The game, which could be played alone and provided a fantasy world for sick children to escape to, became so popular among the hospital's young patients that Abbott's friends encouraged her to pitch it to game manufacturer Milton Bradley. The post-World-War-II timing turned out to be fortuitous.
Winter in Candyland runs 10:00-4:00 Jan 30-Feb 1 and takes about 45 minutes to walk through. Kids can explore hands-on activity stations, colorful scenes, and fun surprises designed to spark imagination and connections - just pure play and together time . . . because the 5th line of the 4-Way Test "is it FUN?" will be in action at the Padgham Pavilion at Jackson County Expo (1 Peninger Road, Central Point).
