Judge’s order on housing transgender women in prisons is ‘illogical,’ Oregon argues

Assistant Attorney General Ariel T. Ashtamker, lower right panel, argued before a three-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Pasadena, Calif. Thursday. Attorney John Burgess, seated in lower right panel, represents the transgender women prisoners who sued the state.

A state lawyer argued Thursday that a federal judge in Oregon has “micromanaged the state’s administration of its prison system” in an unnecessary and “illogical” effort to prevent transgender women from being housed with men.
