NOTICES AND ADVERTISEMENTS REMINDER

The City of Coos Bay has seen an influx of signs and notices being placed in the City’s Right of Way (R/W) lately. The placement of signs in the R/W without a permit is in violation of the Coos Bay Municipal Code Chapter (CBMC) 8.10.110 “Notices and Advertisements”. Some signs placed in the R/W can and do create unintended consequences such as blocking the vision distance of the traveling public and creating distractions for drivers. The City typically sees an increase of these type of signs during the political seasons for public office candidates and ballot measures. The CBMC 8.10.110 States: “Any placard, bill, advertisement, or poster found posted, or otherwise affixed, upon any public property contrary to the provisions of this section may be removed by any employee of the City. The person responsible for such illegal posting shall be liable for the cost incurred in its removal. Please refrain from placing Notices & Advertisements signs in the R/W. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Greg Hamblet, Operations Administrator, at 541-269-1181 ext. 3541Photos from Coos Bay - City Government's post
