OUT WITH THE OLD IN WITH THE NEW
The Water Quality Maintenance Team has been underground installing new pumps. The original pumps are from the 1980’s. These pumps are a very essential part of the wastewater treatment process as they send sludge from the primary clarifier to the anerobic digesters.
Working 365 days a year kicking on every 10-15 minutes for the past 40 years! There are 2 pumps being replaced and they are well past their life expectancy along with being hard to repair and almost impossible to get parts for in recent years.
These 2 pumps had to be custom built-in order to fit as the pump gallery has a very small layout. Most new pumps are double the size, since there is no way to expand the room size underground customization was the only option. The planned replacement of these pumps totaled over $75,000.
