Deborah Kafoury, the chief of staff to Portland Public Schools Superintendent Kimberlee Armstrong, speaks at a recent forum on the district's 2026-2027 budget at Harriet Tubman Middle School. In addition to the $50 million for next year, the district says it needs to make $10 million in cuts to the current year's budget.

Portland Public Schools is facing an unexpected $10 million gap in its operating budget for the current school year, Chief Fiscal Officer Michelle Morrison told the district’s nearly 3,900 employees in an email this week.

Upon arrival, Dominic Dibartolomeo (56) was located on the property in violation of his restraining order and taken into custody. Mr. Dibartolomeo was transported to the Coos County Jail. “Police action is not indicative of guilt. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.”
