With the top team in the NWSL paying a visit to Providence Park on Saturday, the Portland Thorns needed to be ready from the opening whistle to keep a club-record home unbeaten streak intact.
Instead, the Kansas City Current caught the Thorns napping in the first minute of the game to grab an early lead, then the league leaders added an insurance goal in the second half to claim a 2-0 victory.
