So far, none of the protesters charged with federal crimes related to Portland ICE protests have received any jail time. Most have pled guilty, receiving probation.

Recently, a deputy was on her way home after shift when she saw a car not driving well on the Northwest Expressway. Expecting a DUI, the deputy stopped the car and called for backup. Though almost home, they both agreed it was not safe for her to continue, but didn't want to leave her car on the side of the road overnight. While we aren’t a taxi service and don’t usually give rides, the circumstance was unique. With supervisor approval, the deputies gave her a ride, got her car home safely, and discussed giving up driving for good. Nothing heroic.
