Description
The majority of calls our deputies respond to don't make the news. Most people never hear about the difference our staff makes in people's individual lives.
Recently, a deputy was on her way home after shift when she saw a car not driving well on the Northwest Expressway. Expecting a DUI, the deputy stopped the car and called for backup. Instead of an arrest, the deputy got to make someone's day!
The elderly driver was having a difficult time seeing with the evening light conditions. Though almost home, they both agreed it was not safe for her to continue, but didn't want to leave her car on the side of the road overnight.
While we aren’t a taxi service and don’t usually give rides, the circumstance was unique. With supervisor approval, the deputies gave her a ride, got her car home safely, and discussed giving up driving for good.
Nothing heroic. Just doing the right thing, even after their shift was over.
