SUMMER KICKS OFF WITH 4TH OF JULY IN THE PARK   
  
This annual event sponsored by The City of Coos Bay and The Coos Bay Downtown Association has been a long-standing tradition.   
  
The day starts with the Mayors, Firecracker run. The kids run is free to all the cuties and starts at 10 am. The 4 K is free to South Coast Running Club members, or a $10 registration fee to become a member. That race starts at 10:20 am or whenever the littles are done.  Register online at https://www.southcoastrunningclub.com/events/firecracker-run or on the day of the race at Mingus Park.   
  
The family-friendly, fun-filled event, with the goal of bringing the community together starts at 11am around Mingus Park Pond. This year’s event will feature The Coos Bay Fire Department partnering with Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife and the Boys Scouts with their fishing pond, the Coos County Mounted Sheriff’s Posse, Coos Bay Public Library, South Coast Head Start, Coos County 4h Coos Elderly Services, and the Coos Bay Police Department. This free event will end at 2pm.  
There is still time, if your organization would like to participate in this event. Contact the Coos Bay Downtown Association at mainstreetmanager@coosbaydowntown.com.  
  
Other happenings you can take advantage of on the 4th of July.  
The Coos Bay Pool will have free swim from 2pm to 4pm.   
The Mingus Park Community Building-Historic WPA Scout Cabin will have an open house from 11am to 2pm. Come tour this historic building and get information on the restoration work being done. The Scout cabin is located at 850 West Park Roadway, just up the road from the park.  
The City of Coos Bay’s fireworks annual celebration best viewing will be on the boardwalk downtown at dusk. Bring your chair and a blanket and enjoy the show!  
  
The Coos Bay Downtown Association promotes Coos Bay as an attractive place to live, work, and visit by continually enhancing the quality life of the downtown area.
