TRIMET ASSISTS IN STOPPING SUSPECTED DUII DRIVER | During the early morning of July 21st, a TriMet supervisor saw a white Tesla traveling under 5 miles per hour through an intersection. As the Tesla drifted over the center median and into the oncoming lanes, the TriMet supervisor acted quickly and positioned his TriMet SUV in front of the Tesla. While matching its speed, the TriMet supervisor made contact with the Tesla, and safely brought the Tesla to a stop. Neither vehicle was damaged. The TriMet supervisor walked up to the Tesla and saw the driver was unconscious and not responsive.
HPD officers and Hillsboro Fire personnel responded and were able to wake up the driver who was identified as Christian Garcia-Meraz (25) from Beaverton.
Christian was taken into custody on suspicion of DUII and provided a breath sample of .11% BAC.
Christian was lodged at the Washington County Jail for DUII and Driving While Suspended – misdemeanor. He was also cited for Failing to Install an Ignition Interlock Device, and Illegal Window Tint. The Tesla was impounded.
A big thank you to TriMet for their assistance!
