Description
What started as a simple welfare check turned into a stolen vehicle arrest.
Yesterday morning, one of our Community Engagement Officers stopped to help with a disabled Kia Sorento. The driver said he was heading out to get gas, but something didn’t add up. The officer quickly confirmed the vehicle had switched plates and was reported stolen.
As additional officers arrived, the suspect ran. Officers contained the area, and K9 Mac and his handler, Officer Kevin Mesch, picked up the track. Mac led officers right to the suspect, who was hiding under a box truck. After another short attempt to run, he was taken into custody inside a nearby business.
Chesley McMains (54) was arrested on charges including possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of methamphetamine, and escape in the third degree.
This is a good example of how staying observant, working together, and using our K9 team helps keep situations from escalating and keeps our community safe.
